The Footwear Design and Development Institute Act, 2017
The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) Act, 2017, was enacted to declare FDDI as an institution of national importance, aiming to promote excellence in education, research, and training in footwear and leather product design. Established on 4th August 2017, this Act provides a legal framework for FDDI to function as a body corporate, granting it autonomy to offer degrees, conduct skill development programs, and collaborate with industries and institutions globally. It outlines the governance structure, including the roles of the Governing Council, Senate, and key officers like the Managing Director. The Act ensures transparency and accountability by aligning FDDI with the Right to Information Act, 2005. Its significance lies in fostering innovation, supporting the leather sector, and enhancing India's competitiveness in footwear design and manufacturing.
