The India International Arbitration Centre Act, 2019

The India International Arbitration Centre Act, 2019 was enacted to establish the India International Arbitration Centre (IIAC) as an autonomous institution for promoting institutional arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in India. It replaced the International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), which had not kept pace with global arbitration standards. The Act facilitates the transfer of ICADR’s assets and functions to the IIAC, declaring it an institution of national importance. The IIAC aims to provide a robust, cost-effective, and efficient framework for domestic and international arbitration, enhancing India’s position as a preferred arbitration hub and boosting confidence in commercial dispute resolution.
